The Fourth Annual Commencement of the Cain township public schools was held in the Hillsboro opera house Saturday evening, May 21. Cain has always borne an enviable reputation for exercises of this kind and the class of ‘68 ably maintained the standard. The stage was tastefully decorated with the Cuban and American flag much in evidence. The Hillsboro or chestra discoursed a selection of music between every two exercises. Follow ing is the program: Greatly Begin, 4 Lena Wood The Power of Conscience, Olive Chatt Our Life is What We Make it, Ludlow Shaffer Effie Starns The Hearthstone, The Progress of Our Nation, Della Bruner The Age of Progress, Herbert Harris Dress and Fashion, Lucretia Garfield Starns Self Reliance, Homer Frazier Supt. Gossett presented the diplomas and Della Holycross and Bessie Mc Broom delivered the souveriers at the close of the program. Trustee John Shular, of historic Jackson, arose to announce the decis ion of the judges and after inflicting a few real good “puns” upon the au dience he announced that in the opin ion of himself, Will Mellett and Charley Berry Miss Lucretia Starns was entitled to first honors of the evening and that the rest of the class were second. Ben ediction was pronounced by Harve McBroom.
