very little . variation was pub-i lishcd by Dr. Cole, in the Tribune, i a tew weeks ago, being his first I article on what ho terms “Free I Knowledge.” Kow wo are not ! disposed to find fault with Dr.I Uolo for quoting Dr. Dalton ; for,| although personally Dr. Colo is a fine looking man and perhaps innatural ability very nearly the I equal of Dr. Dalton, yet ho does not possess so wide sproad a imputation; and wo think that we are able to meet all the arguments | of all the opposers of phrenology combined, and still come out of Stho contest victorious. I have deliberately read the article from • Dr. Dalton, referred to above,ami it has failed very much to con~ vince me that phrenology is a humbug. It would make this ar-tide too long to give an explanation of the leading principles | of phrenology, or to quoto .Prof.I Wells’ description of the anatomy I of the brain. His description is ' muoh?moro complete than that of | Dr. Dalton.I In looking over the seven loading principles of phrenologyy as 'given by Prof, Wells, I can soe only one that is disputed by Dr. Dalton, and even this is not eon-! sidercd to bo positively proven.|'This’ principle is the 2d : ‘ Ea(Tb I faculty of the mind has its sopa I rate or special organ in the brain.’» Dr. Dalton, in . his Physiology, pago 427 in third edition, 1804, page 411, second odition, 1861, says, “We have no reasoi^br denying that different parts of the brain may be occupied by different intellectual faculties.
