HURON — Don Kortan of Yankton College has been named NAIA District 12 Baseball Coach of the Year. Kortan led the Greyhounds to the District 12 championship and a berth in the Regional Tournament. Also announced was the District 12 All-Star team. In a move to bolster a weak frontine, Seattle engineered a major five-player National Basketball Association trade that sent center Tom Burleson, guard Bobby Wilkerson and a second-round draft choice to Denver for Webster, a second year center, and veteran forwards Silas and Wise in the three-team trade Wednesday. (AP) — Long distance double event winners Curt Fiedler of Glenham and Mark Huber of Andes Central are among four track stars honored for their performance at the South Dakota Class A and Estate meets last weekend. In Class A, the honored athletes are Cindy Allen of Salem, who won the 440 and helped set a relay record in the sprint medley, and Huber, who set a record in the mile and won the two mile. Class B honors were to Julie Klein of Armour, who was first in the 220 and second in the long jump and 100, and Fiedler, who set a mile record and won the two mile. The awards are presented by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association, IN OKLAHOMA STILLWATER, Okla. — Curt Byrum of Onida has been out of Sally Buttes High for nine weeks and practicing golf here. He missed the South Dakota prep tourney but the Chargers emerged anyway with the title. Curt will attend New Mexico next year
