The city architects report building very slow this spring. Very little new work is starting, it is going to be a good season to build however, as materials and labor will be cheaper, and it is probable that considerable new work will be commenced during the summer. There is some work under way here notably the Club house and the hand some office of the Cicero Cin company on Oak Park avenue, now nearly com pleted. Three houses will go up on Carpenter avenue, (one is now begun) and a $25,000 brick school house will be erected on the south school grounds, if we understand that James Lane Allen, the Chicago Lawyer, contem plates building a block of eight houses on his ground at the corner of Chest nut street and Euclid avenue. ‘The plan is for a handsome improvement of pressed brick and stone, something on the order of the Burton block on Clinton avenue. The cost would be about $75,000. As the land has a depton of 176 feet the rear would be obivated for a double flat building fiscallyr south on Chestnut.
