ChampsContinued from Page 2BMorgan Voigt had two saves in the team’s ninth shutout of the season.Rhinelander defeated Medford 4-0 in a non-conference match April 30, but this match had much more on the line as the Raiders (5-3-0, 4-2-0 Great Northern) tried to spring the upset and steal a share of the conference crown.Coach Millot said a powerful team dynamic is the secret to the Hodags’ success.“I think tonight was very indicative of the fact we win as a team,” he said. “A lot of people contribute to our wins whether they are on the stat sheet or not. The girls that come into the game are ready to play and they step right in and things continue. We look at this game as a microcosm of our season and what it took our team to accomplish our goals. I couldn’t be more proud.”As for not conceding a goal in the conference slate, Millot explained the Hodags success is a combination of veteran leadership and a fierce competitive nature burning inside each one of his players.“When you look at the defense that we had this year you look at the veterans we have,” he said. “Claire Tracy is a four-year varsity player.Morgan is in her third year in goal. Hillary Wall is another four-year varsity player. Stephanie Kuski is in her third year on the back line and we have had the opportunity to try different people in the fourth spot. We have a lot of experience and our veteran leadership has really guided us this year. The girls got things done.”The Hodags are now 10-3 and 6-0 in the Great Northern conference, and shift their focus to the next task at hand. The Hodags are the No. 5 seed coming in, and if they can get past the Lumberjacks a contest with No. 4 River Falls looms. Millot saidt the team is focused on getting past East.“When you look at what is going on in the postseason we play Wausau East next Thursday,” Millot said. “Then River Falls (potentially). River Falls is going to be a tough contest but we have to get past East first. East has some dangerous players and we have to be sure we are going to curtail them if we hope to have a successful game.”Thursday’s game will be played at 2:30 p.m. at the RHS soccer field. The early start time was made to accommodate Wausau East, which has graduation that evening at 7 o’clock.
