Two young boys are alleged to have tried to get away with an automobile last night, when they jumped into the car, used a key which they possessed to start it, and drove off down the street. The machine was standing in front of the F. W. Keller store, fruit dealer, 205 South Locust street, where it had been parked, and was the property of Oliver L. Sanders, 426 Saline street. Nobody was in it and the owner had it locked and carried the key in his pocket. Suddenly two youths made a dive for the car, produced a key, cranked it, and drove off down Locust street, going south. The machine was im mediately missed by the owner, and the police were called and a hunt com menced. Evidently fearing that they would be caught, the young men drove the machine as far as the Centralia But ter Co., where they abandoned it in front of the creamery. Chris Martzloff, night watchman for the Centralia Butter Co., saw the al leged thieves stop the car and jump out of it and run away. He reported the presence of the machine to the police. It was a Ford touring car. The young men made good their es cape, and police are engaged in track ing them down today.
