Clinton Item*Editor of the Journal:Clinton, May 20,1882.Mr. Carson Wicks has beeu q ute sick in the last few weeks, but is now able to be up and around. He expects to move to Lawrence before long.Capt. G. W. Cmbarger, an old settler of Douglas county, will move to Barbour county before long, where he expects to make his future home.Some of the students of the university were out on Tuesday evening, the 16th, and gave quite an interesting concert. All wers highly pleased and thought that they got their money’s worth. The proceeds went for the support of the preacher.Mr. William and Clarence Wicks are talking ot going West before long.Mr. Ira Steele, o! Belvoir, has sent a large drove of cattle to Barbour county.A goud manv in this neighbornood are planting sugar cane quite extensively. They evidently do not expect to waste any sweet-ness on the desert air next fall.The Republicans of this community willsupport Judge S 0. Thcher for guvernor,if nominated. Judge Thacher has a goodmany friends around here and they all know him to be an honest, straightforward man. P. P.
