HUBBARD — Cara Hendrix was chosen as the 1989 recipient of the Female Athlete of the Year at Youngstown State University. Hendrix graduated from Hubbard High School in 1985. The award completes a career that saw Hendrix as possibly the most solid woman athlete to attend the campus. Hendrix was a four-year letter winner in basketball and she also earned a trio of letters in track and field. On the basketball court, Hen drix was not known for her scoring as much as her defense and her rebounding. Last year, Hendrix led the Lady Penguins in rebounds with 176 after she was third as a junior with 129. She averaged only four points a game, but started 49 times in her college career and played in 101 games during that four-year span. She scored 474 points during her career in making 180 of 492 shots and 106 of 203 free throws in 1,887 minutes of action. The Lady Penguins had a 14-14 record this season under Coach Ed DiGregorio. Hendrix played in a pair of Ohio Valley Conference tournaments and the Penguins had a 57-54 record during her time at the school. Hendrix was honored at the Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus on May 18 at the annual Penguin Club banquet. BOWL MONEY GOES UP JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
