Children under 12 will be admitted free.The Humboldt Noon Kiwanis Club will be operating a food concession operation the day of the race.The cold wet spring has set the normal training schedule back two to three weeks, and the owners and trainers are anxious to get a look at their charges before the regular season begins, Demps Christensen said Monday.Christensen said that no purse money would be offered, with all those involved donating the time and effort to put on the show. Jean Kleve and his starting gate, along with Verne Baker, will head the group of registered officials on hand for the opener. Superintendent of Speed Don Crook said that indications of a strong field are growing every day, and that by post time the fans should be seeing some of the early season best in action.Christensen said that the bams at the fairgrounds have a record number of horses in training, all of them anxious for the long spring to end. He noted that race officials are reminding the fans that they will be seeing some young untried horses along with veteran performers, *Local stables that have tentatively listed starters include Cronk-Anderson, A1 Emery, Ed Reding, Paul Kampen, Virg Terwilliger, and John Nessa, with several more expected.A late update on the parimutuel situation will also be made, Christensen said.
