Death of Eli Clayton. The Horn Eli Clayton passed away Sunday night. Mr. Clayton was well known in western Iowa. He owned a large estate in Pottawattamie county and was president of a Nebraska Insurance company. Mr, Clayton was emphatically a man of affairs. He easily assumed responsibility and never hesitated to express his opinions on any public question. He had held many offices of trust and as a member of the board of supervisors of Pottawattamie county he revolutionized the business methods of the board and reformed the legislation of that county. Mr. Clayton was an inveterate hater of fraud, chicanery and indirection. He was frank, progressive and in accord with that class of men who are anxious to build up.His plans were practical. His life was a success.Mr. Clayton could scarcely have been less. He came from a robust class of people who have impressed themselves on public life in the states where they have lived. One or two of his brothers have been in Congress and he wrould have made a creditable member of that body.Mr. Clayton has been declining for the last three years. He sought relief in the various health resorts and sanitariums of the country. They failed to help him. His disease was cancer and in another place we give the result of the autopsy. He leaves a widow and a large family of children who have nearly all reached life’s mature estate. The dead man will be buried from his beautiful home on Fourth street tomorrow at 2 o’clock; the remains will be taken to the Congregational church at 2:30 and the funeral sermon preached there by Dr. Hill. Mr. Clayton belonged to the Congregational church. He was also a Mason. Pymosa lodge will meet tonight to make arrangements tor the funeral. *Thus another strong man has gone out from among us. The best eulogy is his—he will be missed and missed for his good works.
