Del Valle Defeats Caldwell 4-3 In Bi-District Baseball GameThe Burleson County CITIZEN, Thursday, May 23, 1968The Del Valle Cardinals became bi-district champs Tuesday night by beating the Caldwell Hornets 4-3 in eight innings. This was the first time ever for Caldwell to participate in a bi-district baseball game. The Hornets thus ended a fine season, under Coach Charles Matojowsky, with a record of 13 wins and three losses.Caldwell threatened to blow the game wide open in the first inning as they filled the sacks with no one out, but managed to get only one run, and thatwas on a passed ball. Allen Garbs opened the inning with a walk, and stole second. Dick Bowers then reached first on an error, sending Garbs to third. Robert Kocurek then walked filling up the bases. Garbs scored on the next pitch when it got past the catcher. The other I runners moved up with still no I one out. The next two batters j went down on strikes, before Paul Batista was hit by a pitch, once again filling the bases. The next batter struck out ending the inning. Del Valle knotted the score in the bottom of the inning without benefit of a hit. At the end of the firstinning the score was tied 1-1. i Dick Bowers opened the third | inning with the first hit of the rj game, a solid single to left. He then stole second. Bowers wastagged out at third as he attempted to move up on Robert Kocurek's ground ball. Kocurek was safe at first. Gregory Kocurek then hit a long fly ball to deep left-center field, that was dropped, and Robert Kocurek came around to score the J Hornets second run, with Greg-I ory Kocurek going to second., The next two batters struck out ending the inning.In the fifth inning Allen j Garbs laid down a bunt singleYoung Homemakers See Sewing FilmsThe Caldwell Chapter of Young Homemakers met for a regular monthly meeti ng Monday, May 13, at the Homemaking Department of Caldwell High School, beginning at 7:30 p.m.The meeting was called to order by the president, Sandra Mynar. Mrs. Ora Kemple then showed two films on sewing. Information concerning the Young Homemakers Convention, which was held in January was read to the group.There being no further business, the meeting was adjournedThere were seven members, one guest and one advisor present. He picked up 11 strikeouts. Righthander Adolph Vallejo picked up his sixth win against no losses for the season in the contest as he stiiiek out 15 Hornets.
