Gunnard ColemanBESSEMER — Gunnard Coleman, 82, of 505 E. Mary St., Bessemer, formerly of Ramsay, died Sunday evening, May 20, 2001, at Grand View Hospital in Ironwood.He was born April 14, 1919, in Ramsay, the son of the late Axel and Ida Coleman.Gunnard was a World WTar II veteran, serving with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy.He was the owner and operator of the Charm Beauty Salon in Ironwood for several years prior to entering the service. Following the service, he was a liquor salesman in the Ironwood-Hurley area, and then worked in several area iron mines. In 1965, he was employed at the former White Pine Copper GunnardCompany in the administration building, retir- Colemaning in 1984. During the mid-’70s to early ’80s, 1919-2001he also owned and operated Riverside Printing in Ramsay.On Oct. 12,1946, Gunnard married the former Marlys Johnson, of Wakefield, in Ann Arbor. She preceded him in death onOct. 4, 1984.Gunnard’s interests included skiing and ski jumping in his earlier days. He also enjoyed deer hunting and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His flower gardens at his home drew people from all over town just to look at them.Gunnard will be remembered as a person who always had a smile and a helping hand. He will be sadly missed by many.Besides his parents and wife, Gunnard was preceded in death by his three brothers, Walter, Edward and Oliver, all of Milwaukee; and a grandson, Caleb Coleman.Survivors include three sons, Robert and Jon, both of Bessemer, and Randy (Mary Jo) Coleman, Ironwood; two daughters, Jill (Dennis) Konieczny, Lockport, 111., and Sandy (David) Hirs-brunner, Naperville, 111. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 1 p.m., at Sharon Lutheran Church, 100 E. Sellar St., Bessemer, with the Rev. Michael Ashman officiating.Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer, where military rites, with a flag presentation, will be conducted by the Bessemer Veterans of Foreign Wars and Bessemer American Legion.The family will receive family and friends at the Chappell-Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home in Bessemer this evening, Tuesday, May 22, from 5 to 7 p.m., and again at the church on Wednesday, from noon until the time of the service.Memorials may be designated to Sharon Lutheran Church of Bessemer.Chappell-Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home of Bessemer is assisting the family with the arrangements.
