Dirksen Sends Athletes to State Meet The Illinois state track and field championships, junior high style, will be staged this weekend in Champaign, site of last weekend's IHSA champion ships. Everett Dirksen junior high of Calumet City will be among the contestants, qualifying a hurdler, a sprinter and a relay team in sectional competition at Bradley last week. Dirksen’s George Rock quali fied in the low hurdles, while Ken Stowe made the grade in the 100 yard dash. In addition, the school’s shut tle relay team of Stowe, Chuck Schmeed, Mike Gilbert and Greg Gartler also qualified for the trip downstate.
