HUNTING FISHING IN MADISON COUNTYby DON HASTINGS,Conservation OfficerWith the muddy water, fishing as I've seen it so far this spring is not much in the county except for the pay lakes and a few farm ponds. Most of the good fishing in the area has (been and continues to be at Carlyle Lake with bullheads leading and crappie second. According to the wardens there, bass have not begun to hit well as yet. High water in the Grafton area has kept fishing down there also. Boaters cooperated real well with us and did not boat in the flood water to fish or otherwise. I spent a number of days at Grafton with other officers operating patrol boats on the flood water. We hope that this is one of the reasons little if any looting of cabins and summer homes was done during the flood.An officer from Jersey County and I worked in the Piasa Creek and Island area last -week and confiscated quite a bit of illegal commercial fishing tackle and expect some arrests will follow.
