BUCHTEL — Buchtel - York High School graduated its larg est class of seniors last Tuesday evening. Forty - one students were granted diplomas. The event, which was attend ed by an overflow audience, was the last activity of its kind to be held in the old school gymnasium. Next year, com mencement exercises will take place in the auditorium of the new high school building, now nearing completion. Speaker was Dr. Arthur C. LaFollette, who spoke on the subject ‘‘Flight 60.”” The speak er, introduced by Clyde Byers, high school principal, stressed the need for moral integrity, honesty and religious convic tions. The program opened with the processional ‘‘War March of the Priests,’ and included the invo cation, pronounced by Martha Dearing; ‘“May You Always,” sung by the Senior Choir; the salutatory address given by Belva Thompson, the valedic tory presented by Linda Loud ner and ‘Graduation Day,” sung by the Senior Choir. George Christman, superin tendent of Athens County Schools, introduced by Superin tendent Charles Christman, pre sented the diplomas and also gave special shop certificates to Fred Adams, Ray Tennehill, Howard Easterling and David Klinebrie!.
