Thompson West Out On Bail —John Cox Trial For Mur der Next Monday. THE JUDGE AND NEW JAIL Last Friday the commission, con sisting of Dr. B. A. Rose, of Linton, John Davidson, of Lyons, and M. F. Pate, of this place, appointed to in vestigate the jail, unanimously re ported to Judge Henderson that a new jail was needed and that they agreed with the recommendations of the state Board of Charities as to the building of a new jail. On Mon day Judge Henderson issued an order for the county council to meet here next Monday and show why they had not appropriated sufficient money to build a new jail and if they had appropriated enough, the com missioners are summoned to appear before him next Monday and show cause why they had not taken steps to build a new jail with the money already appropriated by the council. Now, that way of doing business has ‘‘some class to it’? and it looks like something will be doing very soon in the way of building a new jail. The following new suits have been filed since last week: The Citizens National Bank, of Bedford, vs. Jule Walters, Francis X. Johnson and William H. Palmer, note: Charley vs. Harvey E. Cush man and William O. Nash, note; Levi M. Price vs. Harvey Laughlin and John Laughlin, note; Marie Mercier vs. Joe Mercier, divorce; George D. Crane vs. Shirley Hill Coal Company, damages; The New Union Lumber Company vs. Theo dosia Bilderback et al., mechanic’s lien; The New Union Lumber Com pany vs. Charlotte Price et al., mechanic's lien; The New Union Lumber Company vs. Overton D. Tapp et al., mechanic’s Lien; The New Union Lumber Company vs. John H. Vaughn, mechanic’s lien; Farmers and Mechanic’s Mutual Building, Loan and Savings Asso ciation vs. Clyde S. Moss, note and mortgage; Emma J. Dunn vs. Harry A. Dunn, divorce; Swift Company vs. Jade W. Hannum, account; Ed ward Winnegar vs. Margaret Winne gar, divorce; Home Loan and Sav ings Association vs. Amos D. Mc Cormick et al., foreclosure; state vs. Elsworth Van Fossan, recognizance. The following disposition has been made of cases on the state docket: ‘ State vs. Harry Beach, embezzle ment; failed to appear; bond for feited, State vs. Stanley Bennett and Myrtle Bennett, petit larceny; dis missed, State vs. Riland Criss, illegal sale of liquor by druggist; trial by jury; verdict of guilty and fine of $50.00 and costs. Three other cases are pending: State vs. John Cox, charged with murder in the first degree for the killing of John Brazelle at Linton; trial set for next Monday and a special venue of twenty-five men summoned to appear on that day for jury duty. Before the grand jury adjourned they visited the jail and poor asylum and reported the jail in poor condi tion and the poor asylum in good condition. State vs. Thompson West indicted for murder in the second degree on account of shooting Israel Long, a neighbor, who died of blood poison ing after several days illness from the bullet wound. The trial will not be heard until next September and West is put on $5,000 bail until the first day of the September term of court. Business on the civil docket has been disposed of as follows: Cora Jackson was granted a di vorce from. Maynard Jackson and her maiden name, Ridgley, restored. Jacob Biddle vs. Wm. Spear, mech anic’s lien comprosed and dis missed. E. B. Williams vs. Indianapolis Southern R. R. Co., damages; trial] by court; judgment for plaintiff, by agreement, of $100. L. W. Goetzman et al vs. R. L. Bailey, note; judgment for plaintiff for $1,299.99, State ex rel Geo. W. Phillipe vs. Board of Trade of Vincennes et al., to recover $10,000 for tax-payers of Knox county, which amount was paid by Knox county commissioners for a lot in an addition to Vincennes which was said to contain a valuable deposit of land; the case was en tered in Knox county, venued to Daviess county and afterward wen to Greene county; trial by court and judgment against defendant for $10,642, which was paid in open court to C. B. Harris, attorney for plaintiff. W.V. Moffett represented one of the defendants. E. D. Slough vs. Stewart, mech anic’s lien; judgment for plaintiff for $62.25. Edna Inman vs. Chas, Porter, on judgment; judgment for plaintiff for $480. H. O. Pearce vs. Job Freeman, slander; affidavit for change of venue filed. Frank Inman vs. Robi. Smith et al., account; compromised and dis missed. Earl Vanhorn was granted a di vorce from Ella Vanhorn. United States Trust Co. vs. John Vonderschmitt et al., foreclosure; trial by court: judgment for plaintiff for $686.70. W. Ed. Shepherd ap pointed receiver, Remy Rane vs. Shirley Hill Coal Co., damages; compromised, Hattie M. Smith was granted a di vorce from Frank Smith and her maiden name, Wills, restored. She was also given custody of child and $300 alimony. Ethel Sharp was granted a divorce from Wm. Sharp and her maiden name, McCullough, restored. Taylor Suttle, applicant for liquor license from Linton, vs. Board of Commissioners, appeal; granted change of venue to Monroe county. Fred Hasler vs. D. M. Bynum, note; judgment for plaintiff for $383, L.I. Shryer vs. Aaron Combs et al., note and replevin; dismissed. Joe Ricca, petition for naturaliza tion; admitted to citizenship. Cecil J. Reynolds vs. Bruce Fleet wood and John Hudson, note; judg ment for plaintiff for $91.30 Caleb Lowder vs. John H. Pope, account; judgment for plaintiff for $155.50. Geo. D. Stahl was appointed guar dian of Geo. Stahl, a person of un sound mind, who has property and is not capable of managing same. Susan Johnson vs. Willis H. John son and wife; to quiet title; finding for plaintiff quieting a title to real estate. W. L. Cavins, admr. Desire Sim ond, vs. Vandalia Coal Co., dam ages; judgment for plaintiff for $200. John Cardemus vs. Linton Rolling Mill Co., damages; judgment for plaintiff for $235.00. Marie Colson vs. Clement Colson, divorce; dismissed. Jos. B. Magner vs. D. W.
