WHITEF1SH, FLATHEAD COUNTY, MONTANA, FRIDAY, MAY 21, 1909LOSESGAMEWhitefish Goes Down to Defeat Before Somers Ball Team, Score 7 to 9VERY INTERESTING GAMECold Day Hakes Good Playing: lm possible—Score Is Tied Twice and Result Was in Doubt Until the Last Han Was Retired in Last InningWhitefish went down to defeat in thehall game with Somers Sunday, to thetune of 9 to 7. The game was not of ashigh class as the local team is capable ofputting up, but was none the less interesting, for there were several ties during the progress of the game, which kept the finish very much in doubt.Somers has a very good team this year, the battery, E. Torbgson and Taylor, being especially good. Their team work is also good, and shows the result of practice which is lacking in the White-fish team. E. Torbgson, Devoe and Thompson all did good batting for the visitors. The day was cold and rather windy, and not at all favorable for fastball playing. On a better day the same two teams would put up a much faster game. Whitefish lias a good team, however, and before the season is over will make a lt;ood showing. The local team made many errors, and several very bad ones, and it was 011 this account that the game was lost. They out-batted the visitors, and bad all the Ijcst of the argument, but unusual errors at critical times proved very costly. There were errors made by some of the players which were entirely foreign to their usual form.Manager Joe Hamill hatted well, and covered third hase in first class style, with possibly the exception of one play. Emard, on first, made one error, hut otherwise held down his position in good shape. Van Slyke, on second, nailed everything that came his way. He is in good shape and can le depended upon to give a good account of himself.Donovan’s hatting was one of the features of the game, and he never failed to connect with the ball. Behind the hat he made good, and seemed to get better with every inning. Peterson, the shortstop. batted well, hut made a couple ofccjstly errors early in the game.
