THE PEARL BRYAN CASH AT NEWPORT, KY, ENDHD, The Verdict of the Jury is Murder and Death Penalty. The BoottTacks#on wise Which has been before the court at Newport, Ky. for maany days, went to the jury at 10 olslook Thursday morning. Be fore retiring the judge's typewritten instruptions, bloody clothes, letters and other articles that were shown in evi dence, were placed in their hands. At 12:05 the jury returned to the courtroom with a verdiet. Amid a dendlike business the foreman handed the verdiot to the clerk, who read ae, follows: : “We, the jury, find the defendant, Scott Jackson, guilty of murder in the first degree, and Bx his penalty at death.’” The judge had previously announc ed that no demonstration of approval or disapproval by spectators would be permitted. Deputies were placed throughout the room with inatruo tong to bring before the court any poor disobeying this instruction, to o punished, for, contempt. Conse quently tthe verdict was heard with slende, but immediately upon the ad journment of court the spectators’ rushed to the jurors and shook their hands heartily. ‘They also shook each other by the hand, showing a hearty appreciation of the verdict of the jury. Jokson received his doom with no manifestation of emotion, except an increased acNew paleness of the face. None of his relatives were present. The aged father of Pearl Bryan ‘and her brother, Fred’ Bryant were pres ent when the verdict was rendered. The neweriation for a new trial was made, and, then Jackson was taken away to jail.
