An interested group of Hobbsans discussed and explored the lives of the leading Hobbs school teachers and selected Ralph Trice of Houston Junior High School as one of the most dedicated teachers in Hobbs and made a suitable presentation honoring him for his accomplishments. The special presentation was made at the Hobbs Chapparal Kiwanis Club meeting when Hobbs Fireman and Kiwanis Board Member, Melvin Davis, gave Trice the award. Trice, of 303 West Palace, is married to the former Ruth Alldredge and they are the parents of three children, Bill of Denver City, Texas; John of Phoenix, Arizona; and Judy Mulkey of Hobbs. They have five grand children. Trice was born and raised in West Texas and received his elementary and second ary education in west Texas schools. He received his undergraduate training at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where he obtained his B.S. degree in Physical Education. He also has an M.S. from Eastern New Mexico University at Portales. He served in the Army during World War II and was a sergeant with most of his tour of duty with the 147th Infantry Division in the Pacific. After graduation from West Texas State, Trice went to Roaring Springs, Texas as their first full time coach where he coached all boy’s and girl’s sports activities. That first year he served Roaring Springs, he also was elementary principal and drove a school bus. The next two years, he coached and served as high school principal.
