A Powers Lake man was killed this morning when his motorcycle went off the road and smashed into two trees in the county. And at nearly the same moment motorcycle and bicycle collision in the city left two persons in critical condi tion James E. Webster, 21, Powers Lake, died of massive head injuries after his motorcycle went off the road at Highways F and W in Salem Town ship about 1:20 a.m. According to the sheriff's report, Webster was headed east toward Silver Lake and accom panied by several friends, also on motorcycles His friends told authorities that as they approached Silver Lake, they noted Webster was not following them. So, they turned back to search for him. After about 20 minutes, ac cording to the report, they found him lying next to his cycle in Schwartz Nursery, on the corner of W and F. According to the report, Webster failed to make the curve at the in tersection, went off the road and struck two small trees in the nursery. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Burlington Memorial Hospital. Meanwhile in the city, a bicycle and motorcycle collided at about 1:15 this morning at 52nd Street and 13th Ave nue, leaving two persons in critical condition. Edward Harris, 13, 5525 24th Ave., was eastbound on his bicycle in the westbound lane of 52nd Street and Jeffrey S. Pier, 23, 622 43rd st., was westbound on a motorcycle in the westbound lane, when the two vehicles collided under the railroad overpass. Pier and his passenger, Debra Am brosini, 18, 5425 34th Ave., were in critical condition this morning at Kenosha Memorial Hospital. Harris was treated and released. According to the police report he had a passenger on his handlebars, Cherie LaFay, 15, 5416 24th Ave., who was reported in Satisfactory condition at St. Catherine's Hospital.
