Mokena PoliceMake AwardsTo CitizensMOKENA — Observance of National Police Week here wound up last Friday night in a reverse role. Instead of police being recipients of citations, to which they were entitled for their service to the community, it was the police who singled out members of the community forawards.Approximately 60 personswere present, by invitation, at the brief ceremony conducted in the new primaryschool at Willocrest with Police Chief Wayne Ryder presiding. The Colors were advanced and retired by theColor Guard of William E. Martin Post, V.F.W and the Rev. Laslo Hunyady gave the invocation and benediction.The citations, inscribed and framed and bearing the village seal, were all surprises as far as the recipients were concerned.James A. Raffauf, an airline captain, was cited for his observation and action which resulted in saving of a life, and Larry Spiess, employed by an oil company, was also cited for his part in saving a child's life. He kept the child alive enroute the hospital with mouth-to-mouth resuci-tation. The youngster lived Janet Bosworth, formerly o the Joliet Herald News staf and now doing graduate worl at Northwestern, and GlenrLogan, regional editor of thiSOUTHWEST GRAPHICalso received awards.Top citation was awardelt; Fire Chief Robert Rust, no only for his aid to the polic department on countless oc casions, Chief Ryder said but for the many years he ha donated time and effort in th service of the community. H ha? been chief of the Mokcn Community Volunteer Fir Department since 1956.Refreshments were sen ed by wives of members c the police department. Th punch was served by Mr Henry Clark, whose late hu band was a member of th village board and polkcommissioner.Members of the villaj board were in attendantand Mayor Will Tuttle spolbriefly, congratulating icipicnts of the awards.
