First NationalNamed SchoolDepositoryDraw from HatFirst National Bank was named the depository for school funds when Mrs. M. M. Mac-Rae board president drew thatname from the hat. The name was drawn at the regular meeting of ttie Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees Thursday.Banks submitting bids were F irst National Banak, Citizens National Bank, Take Air National Bank and National City Bank. The bids of three banks were similiar with the exception of Number 7 on the specification sheet which dealt with waiver of fees for the paying agents of school bonds. National City Bank was not included in the drawing because of their lower iate of interest to be paid on average daUy basis.Dr, Joseph R. Griggs, Vice-Chairman of the board of the Texas Retired Teachers Residence Corioration appeared before the trustees to ask them to drop the suit now pending against the residence for nonpayment of taxes. In his statement to the board he said the home would have to close if they were forced to pay this additional $15,000 each year to the City of Waco and Schooldistrict for advalorem taxes.The home was situated in Waco because of a 1059 committment m which it was stated the residence would be tax free. Cocke estimatedthat from the date of signingof a contract till finish of the job would be three months onadditions.Superintendent Avery Downing informed the board members tliat each school principal is now preparing his budget for the coming year. He said they are being prepared without the adjustment for a proposed teacher raise now before the legislature in Austin.If it passes, he said tnat Wa-coans can expect a substantialtax rate increase.Williams Chemical Companywas awarded the bid of 150cases of Toilet Tissue at $8.75a case.East Texas Paving Co. wasapproved to put two coats of slurry seal on the parking lot at Richfield High School which is owned by the Heart O' I exas Fair Association.
