TROJAN THOUGHTSBY PAUL SIMONThe merger of the school districts of Troy, Marine and Sf. Jacob is now a reality — thanks to the courageous action on m part of the school board members of each of thethree districts.The merger involves a give and take on the part of egoh of the school districts concerned — and there are going to be things about the merger which each of the districts won't like too much at times. That's true of any merger: marital, business or school.But this much is unquestionably true: the merger works for the educational advantage of the students of the threeareas.With that in mind, a rather unusual thing happened; seven board members — that's all of them — in each of the three school districts decided to stuck their necks out for the educational welfare of the students in their communities.And so they voted to disband the school district in which each board was working, and form a new district of all threeareas.The whole thing is rather remarkable — but nothing more remarkable than the courage of the school boards ofTroy, Marine and St. Jacob.♦ . ♦ ♦i A little more than a week ago the Lions club of Troy *had a meeting in which Leeds Watson got up and said that since shoe leather had won the campaign for me, the Lions dub had decided to give me a pair of shoes.And then he handed me a nicely wrapped box — a shoe box.Now I have been in Troy long enough to learn this: if Bill Pitt or Leeds Watson says he is giving you a musical powder box, look for a baby alligator.The two of them are professional practical jokers, carrying on the business on a cross-country basis.So it was with no small surprise I opened the box and discovered a fine pair of new shoes.It was really swell of you fellows.And believe me, I can use them.
