THE FEIST DF SONS,All is in Beadiness for the Grand Musical Event.THE FIRST GRAND CONCERT TO-NIGHTThe Mas* Rehearsal* Fombsdtir Ultl*male Success—Roster of the Entire Chorus-Programmes for the Firstand Second Concerts. The mass rehearsal last night for the May Festival was a most encouraging precursor of a grand aehievment. The entire chorus, with the exception of about 40 from abroad, assembled and rehearsed the choruses for to-night's concert. The rehearsal was most satisfactory and far exceeded the expectations of Director Pontius. The improvement over the first mass rehearsal last year was so marked that everyone felt jubilant and courageous, whereas, last year the first rehearsal was positively discouraging. The chorus, when all have repo *ted, will be extremely well balanced and it would be unfair to say that one section is superior to another. The bassos might be strengthened numerically without detriment, but otherwise there is little room for improvement. The soprano force is prominent, well supported by tenor, alto and contralto of strong calibre, which completely fills the gap between the two extremes. The performance of “The Lord is King” to-night, will afford grand entertainment for the audience. There is a delightful solo and chorus, “Sion Heard of It,” in which the Mansfield auditors will have' the pleasure of hearing their favorite songstress—Miss Carrothers.Mme. Poole waj present at the rehearsal. Besides being an accomplished eoQtralto, she is a lady of winsome graces and that she will endear herself to all who hear her rich voice or may have the further pleasure of meeting her personally, there can be not the slightest doubt.Director Pontius introduced her to the chorus during one of the intervals of the rehearsal and she was given a demonstrative welcome. By requeatof Mr. Pontius she sang “O ye that love the Lord,” from “the Lord Is King,” which will certainly be listened to to-uight with rapt attention.Arthur Bereeford arrived this morning from Chicago and assisted at the morning and afternoon rehearsals today, He is in good voice and will delight the audience. The members of the chorus have all reported. The full roster of the chorus is here given by societies, and there are very few who are not present.ASHLAND HAYDN CLUB.Sopranos—Emma Arnold, Lizzie J.
