ST, JOHNS, NEWFOUNDLAND,May IS, 1824.AT a Meeting of the House-keepersresiding in the lower district, of the l)ie Towii of St. Johoi, held ihia day, pur-q,111 to notice, it was unanimouslyThat we whose names are hereunto subscribed, do form ourselves into * Company, to he denominated the“ PHCENIX FIRE COMPANY,”O.id that we do hereby bind our*elves to #hi le by and strictly attend to the Rules and Regul itions now adopted, and to any other additional Rulea or amendment* which may lieteafter be made, by the Majority of the company,'at a General meeting, regularly convened for that purpose.RULES and regulations*1st.__That a Captain and Three Lieutenants shall be now chosen by ballot, and •t a general Meeting annually,on the first day of February, in each year.2d.—That every other member shall take the station assigned to him by the Fire-Wardens and Officers, and obey their orders as strictly as if they were lawfully engaged so to do* and attend all meetings, for exercise, when convened,unless prevented by illness.3d.—That the company meet ar.d exercise the Engine from six to seven o'clock, in the evening, on every second Saturday until further notice.4ih--Tha*ihe moment an alarm of Fire being given, every member is to repair to the Enqine Hous*. at Brown, Hoyles and Morris' Wharf, and follow the order* of the Senior Officer then present— no'hmg but illness, or the property of the pt-rsuii being in danger by the lire being Deai his premises, to be an excuse for non-at tendance,4*h—That every House-keeper, a member of thia company, do provide himself immediately'with six light Buckets, in the form of an inverted cone, to be hung up in the lobby of Ins house, to be Used for no other purpose, whatever, but the Engine, and always to be taken to tho engine house when the alarm ol hie be giv-n.•ib.—That every Officer neglecting to attend on days of exercising, after receiving no'iie tn a regular manner, shall pay a fine of Jive shillings, and every other member of the company one shtiling,—and on the alarm of Fire being given, every officer not at the engine house within Ten minutes after the first alarm guns have fired, to pay a fine of Twenty shillings, and every other member fi w shillings, —All Fines to go to the repairs of the Engine ar.d its apper-tunaoces—Illness or absence from the town to bo the only admissible excuses.A Ballot having taken place, the following persons were chosen for the ensuing year, Newman W.
