While health care is inadequate for many whites as well, statistics reveal that glaring inequities still exist. (See Appendix I).Faced with this grim picture as a daily reality. Third World workers, students, and community people during the 60’s demanded increased admissions to health professional schools, increased hiring of minority health workers, and more health service-providing facilities in■ l * TKPVthrough several years of higher education when sources of financial aid have been drying up have led to a declining pool of disadvantaged applicants at many graduate and professional schools including UCSF. In fact, in 1975-76 the percent of minoritiea in first year U.S. medical school classes remained static or declined from the previous year.
