Senior CitzensOrganize ClubA meeting to organize the Sandpoint Senior Citizens Club was held at the G.A.R. Hall on Friday, May 15th at 2 p.m., Betty Englert, Acting Secretary -Treasurer said today.George McCourt, guest speaker from the Coeur d’Alene Senior Citizens Club addressed the group of Sandpoint oldsters.He explained the purpose and advantages of the Club which all members enjoy, emphasizing the value the club has in forming a united voice for senior citizens on such important matters as legislation, at state and National level.McCourt added that members also enjoy savings on travel, and drugs and medicinal expenses, as well as. the obvious social aspects to be enjoyed by such a group.State Representative Don Maynard spoke to the group and explained some legislative points.Other speakers included Fred Siefken, Roger Kane and LaVerne Fetz, who spoke in praise of Senior Citizens Club membership.There were 18 Charter members who signed up for club membership Friday, the acting secretary reported. Dues are $5 per couple and $3.50 per individual, she added.A meeting- to elect officers of the newly-formed group will be held June 19th at 2 p.m. at the G.A.R, Hall, the club spokesman announced. The Coeur d’ Alene Senior Citizens Club will furnish the program of entertainment which will include an old-fashioned song-fest.The club charter members are seeking new members from the ranks of those who are 50 years and “up.”
