SON-IN-LAW OF FORMER MEXICAN PRESIDENT FALLS INTO HANDS OF BREWSTER COUNTY SHERIFF. Sheriff E. E. Townsend of Al pine and Ranger Captain Gray made one of the most sensational captures on Saturday night of last week that has been made in some time when they apprehend ed General Candido Aguilar, son in-law of former President Car anza of Mexico, and Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Romero, of Gen eral Francisco Murgia’s staff, near Marathon, and brought them to Alpine where they were lodged in jail and afterward turned over to the department of justice. General Aguilar and his com panion crossed the Rio Grande near Boquillas on the night of May 12 and made an auto run for Marathon to catch an east bound train from there. Sheriff Town send and Ranger Captain Gray were in the vicinity of Boquillas when the sheriff received word from the Mexican authorities of the attempted escape of the men and immediately took the trail, overtaking the fugitives near Marathon and placed them under arrest. The two men are charged with having gone into Mexico, with others, on the night of March 4, last, for the purpose of starting a revolution against the Obre gon government. General Mur gia escaped at the time while three of his staff, including his brother, General Jose Murgia, were captured by Obregon forces and shot. Had the men captured by Sheriff Townsend been cap tured by the Mexican forces, they would have suffered a sim ilar fate.
