Father W. A. McCarty, the faithful pastor of the Catholic population of our city, in raising funds for the erection and furnishing of it, is worthy of nil commendation. It is not surprising at all that the Rev. gentleman meets with such signal success in his holy calling, as his uniform urbanity combined with unaffected sociability is well calculated to make him friends amongst all classes of people with whom he coine.s in cou tact.Elaborate preparations are being made for the consecration by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Northrop, of Charleston, who will be assisted by several priests from the larger cities in Georgia, on the llrst Sunday in June next.The building is upon the lot generously donated by I)r. A. Mathis several years ago; the carpenter work is by Mr. J, T. Ailing of Mill-edgevillc, who closely adhered to the plan and specifications gratuitously furnished to the church by Mr. Frederick an a c c o m p 1 i s li ed architect of Baltimore. The paint ing so neatly done by Dawson Hays of our city, is quite creditable to him.
