The City Police had a busy night Friday as they arrested seven people, including one man on four charges and in vestigated an act of vandalism at the local high school. A City Police officer was on routine patrol Friday afternoon when he noticed that a large plate glass window on the southwest side of the school had been broken out. The im pact which broke the window was evidently quite strong as it was 35 feet from the window to the farthest piece of glass. Louis A. Land, 26, 909 N. Main St., was arrested at 2:52 p.m. Friday and charged with driving under the influence, driving while suspended, false or fictious registration and violation of the muffler law. Land was observed in the 300 block of N. Main, driving at a very slow rate of speed. Police officers followed and could hear the car making a very loud noise from the mufflers. He was then stopped in the 400 block of N. Main St., and Land informed officers he was a suspended driver. When police asked to see the car’s registration, Land could not produce the right registration for the car he was driving. He was then taken to police headquarters, where he tested .17 on the breathalyzer test. He was jailed at the Rush County Jail and will appear in City Court. Gregory L. Estes, 16, Route 1, was arrested by police in the 100 block of N. Harrison St. and charged with reckless driving. Eugene Thomas, 50, 118 S. Harrison Sr. was arrested Friday night in the 700 block of West 2nd Street and charged with disorderly conduct after he refused to quit fighting with his wife. He will appear in City Court. Jay E. Piles, 17, Box 114, Arlington, was arrested Thursday night and charged with violation of the muffler law. It was observed by police in the 400 block of West 1st Street, that Pile’s auto did not have any tail pipes. Sharon (Sherrie) Stearnes, 24, 118 +S. Harrison St., was arrested Friday night and charged with disorderly con duct, public intoxication and resisting arrest, after she refused to quit fighting with her husband in the 700 block of West 2nd St. Police officers had to use force to get her into and out of the police car and also at the County Jail, where she kicked and hit city and county officers. She was jailed and will appear in City Court.
