CINCINNATI DETECTIVE AND BROTHER OF MURDERED GIRL SWEAT NEGRO WHO WAS SEEN NEAR HOME OF VICTIM—DE NIES ALL KNOWLEDGE OF THE CRIME. (Scripps McRae Telegram.) CINCINNATI, O., May 18.~Detec tive Lieutenant Poppe and Fireman Edward Steinigewer Thursday closely questioned Charles Jones, colored, who recently shot Patrolman Chase, as to his whereabouts on the night that Al ma Steinigeweg was killed on Winton road. Jones, who lives in Cummins ville, knew the girl, and was seen at one time dancing a jig on the sidewalk of her home, while she played the piano. He was also seen near the Steinige weg home several times before the murder, and was employed on sewer work, in Winton Place, about the time of the murder. He denied all knowledge of the crime, and alleges that he was at home sick on the night of the mur der.
