Obituary.Mrs. I.ucinda Spell Hoffpauir, wife of Mr. Nathan Hoffpauir, died at the family residence eight miles south, west of Duson near Indian bayou, on the 6th of Mrlt;y, after a long illness. The deceased was born, in Vermilion parish on the 10th of October, 1815. She had been married sixty-two years and would have been 80 years old in October. She had run her race, fought the good fight, and laid up her treasures in heaven. Mrs. Hoffpauir was one of the kindest and most gentle of women and was univ ersally beloved. She was a member of the Methodist church and one of the most faithful and constant of Christians. Through all her sufferings she was patient and gentle. She leaves thirteen children, five daughters and eight sons. Her living posterity numbers two hundred anil four. 1-1 er ! icmains were followed to the grave by a vast assemblage of relatives, friends anti acquaintances, all in solemn silence stifling their grief at the loss of a good woman. On looking over the long line of proccs- i sion we thought truly that the “inc- j rnory of the righteous shall live. The s -Trowing husband and children who feel that their loss is indeed ! irreparable, should not sorrow however as those having no hope. They j have the consolation of knowin; 1 that “the Lord hath given the I Lord hath taken mvay”, and that I “his name is blessed. In her life and in her death, her family ami friends have an example of a shining memory of virtue, unaffected goodness and of religion pure and unde-filed which should make an impression never to be erased.
