The Manson high school will graduate a class of twenty-three thin year, twelve girls ‘and eleven boys. The Ware High School will put on the play, ‘‘Mr. Bob’’ at the Ware school building, this, Thursday evening. Dr. Stanton Olinger of Lawrence, Kansas, has been secured as the new president of Buena Vista Col lege at ‘Storm Lake. Miss Anna Byrne of this place has been reelected as teacher of the primary department in the Palmer public schools. Dr. Weber, the eye and ear doctor will be at Hotel Pocahontas on Monday, May, 28, afternoon. Ex amination free. Come. County Superintendent Bradshaw had been busy the past two weeks attending the graduating exercises of the county rural schools. Frank J. Pager returned home last Saturday from Casaelton, N. D., where he has been for several weeks looking after his farm interests. Editor L. H. Mayne of the Palo Alto Reporter, was here last Thurs day as a witness in the road case which was on trial before Judge Lee. Emory Smith left early Monday ‘morning for Palo Alto county, where he expected to dispose of a number of Central Life policies this week, A. F. Marshal and wife Jeff Sun day ‘morning, by the Studebaker route, for Mason City’ and North wood for a few daya visit with rel atives. ‘Mrs. Edna Williams of St. Louis, Mo., who has been visiting relatives at Manson, spent a few days here last week, with her sister, Mrs. O. K. Atkinson. Canadian land men are advertis ing for 50,000 Americans to work during the summer in the plain fields of Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Mrs. J. W. Starr and Mrs. D. O. Blake entertained the members of the Friday club, and husbands, that Saturday evening, at a dinner party at the home of the latter. A pick-up ball team went to Have lock, Sunday, and defeated the team over there by the score of something like 18 to 5, Kendall of Plover pitched for Havelock. If relatives or friends of the sol dier boys who have gone from here will give us their address ,we will be pleased to send them the RECORD free of charge while the war lasts. A. S. Bookman and wife and Mias Marge Acheson visited with rela tives in West Bend, Sunday. Mrs. O. 2. Malcolm accompanied them as far as Rolfe where she spent the day. We are in receipt of a copy of the Ware Implement Company News, n ew paper gotten out every two weeks at the enterprising town of Ware, for the benefit of the mer chants and also the people in gen eral as it carries a nice lot of local news. George Siebels and family moved from Palmer to this place last week and they are now nicely settled in the house near the creamery. Mr. Siebels found this necessary on account of his business Interests here. We are glad to welcome this estimable family to Pocahontas. There was a good attendance at the social held by the Adult Depart ment of the Methodist Sunday school at the church last Thursday evening. After a program in the auditorium, a social time was held in the basement, and refreshments served. A feature was an old fashioned spelling match ,with Mrs. H. C. Gilchrist as teacher.
