In the company were: Chief James Harry, Seymour creek; Chief George Slyholt, No. 3 reserve, North Arm; Capt. Alexius, Seymour Creek; Jimmy Frank, Andrew Frank, Squamish Mission, and Interpreter Simon C. Pierrio, Hatzic, Fraser river. A large number of Indians met them at the boat at Nanaimo, also a large crowd met them at Duncan's on arrival of thr train there Indian Agent Robertson wanted Chief Joe to tell him all about his busi-it css on the island, but this Chief Joe refused to do ami went his way. In the afternoon, while the meeting was in progress, Mr. Robertson and Judge Lomas ar-lived on the scene, but the Indians quit talking, and would not proceed any further. The agent said that the white people were alarmed at the holding of so many meetings of the Indians of late. They repliedd that’ what they wanted was between them and the government to settle when delegates would be sent to Ottawa. Thu Cowichan Indians are in sympathy with their Squamish brethren, and also refuse to deal with the agents. The whole question is over the matter of their land being Occupied by others. After some hot words between the agent and Hill Holis-lach/a Cowichan, Mr. Robertson and Judge Lomas slibok bands with the visiting chiefs And left. The Indians then finished theirbusiness, after which the meeting)broke up.
