! Jurors’ Feus.—The disi rid court is about I to set al Franklin once more, and it will pcob-(ably be in session during the whole ol ihe month | of June. Juiors should now begin to provide themselves with the necessary funds to pay expenses while they remain in Franklin iu the service of the state arid their country. Although lt;»ur jurors are principally made up of the bone and sinew of the country—persons who till the soil, build our houses and complete all of the mechanical im|novements in the country, 6til» our stale has made provision for paying them fur theii services only partly enough to square up their board bill while in her service. 1 es, the very men who pay most of our t^xes, aqd contribute more thau all others to the wealth, ininrovement, aud prosperity of the state, must serve that Sta'e which they so greatly benefit, and not receive a single dime in payment—all the slate will do is to metdy help pay their board bill- Our jury men are now to eervc the state a month, during which time their business must ib** neglected—mechanics, nveiseers,c., will b*-(obliged to lose a twelfth part of the year, and itor this trouble, service and sacriiice they'gel [nothing—they have to take iheir private funds jfroin iheir pockets to help the state pay their board bill.i We do not hesitate to say that all of this is gross jinjustice. Tije carpenter who can get $£ per jdgj and bis board besides compelled to work for the state for nothin*, *nd worse than that, the state is too poor to pay for his board, and the mdustiious mechanic must help her doit. There are numerous meu who servo as ju-rors, that are poorly able to bear such a bur. den, tut they are compelled to do it. or tare worse. Mr. Dimitry, superintendant of public schools, receives more than nine dollars per day lor bis services, or $3,000 per year, and those who serve on our jury are obliged to help pay the amount awarded to such tnen. Our higher officers in the service of the state are all of them well paid, and there is no reason why jurors: should be so peuurioutly dealt with.
