NEEPAWA A resident of Arden and his wife saw a strange flying object southeast of his home early one murn ing recently. The object seem ed to glow, change colors, and at times shine a light “like a beacon’ that illuminated a stand of trees nearby. Frank Harder, 47, a worker for the rural municipality of Landsdowne. First spotted the bright red object to the south east at 3:15 a.m., when he went to the kitchen for a glass of water. At first he thought it was the moon, but he had nev er before seen the moon rise from this direction. As he watched, the object rose and began changing colors, from bright red to bluish red At this point, he woke up his wife and as they both watch ed, the object moved very quickly in a southerly direction and stopped abruptly. Mr. Har der estimated that it moved a half-mile to the south. 't was then that they saw the object shine a bright light that illuminated the trees near by. The light, which was bluish in color, was “as bright as a searchlight,” said Mr. Harder, and the object moved back and forth “as if it was searching for something.” Questioned at his work site southeast of Arden, Mr. Harder said that he and his wife watched the object for 10 to 12 minutes until it disappeared be hind the bushes. They observ ed it through their kitchen door window, which faces south. Mrs. Harder, questioned at their home, substantiated her husband's claims. “I would nev er have believed it if he had told it to me,” she said, “but I saw it myself.” When asked whether the ob ject made any noises, she re plied that she did not hear anything, and that neither of them wanted to venture out side to investigate. Mr. Harder had not discuss ed the sighting with anyone ex cept a fellow worker and his employer at the time that the Neepawa Press questioned him Arden is a village 15 miles northeast of Neepawa SEE STRANGE OBJECT—Mr. and Mrs. Frank Har der, who saw a strange object recently, said at times it shone like a heaven.
