Henry Butler returned Satur day to his home at Conneaut, O. after visiting his grandfather, Fred Hatch, of Easy Main street. Airs. Mabel Richardson — of Central avenue is spending a short time with friends in Springheld, O. Mr. and Mrs. HLM. Putnam and W. D. Putnam spent Sunday with their nephew, Kenneth J. Eddy and family at Machias. Mrs. G. A. Williams of Cottage Street leaves Tuesday morning for Detrit, where she will visit her brother A. J. Lawrence for the week, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Houser of Washington avenue had as guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. John Hou ser, Miss Mary Houser, Hugh Houser of Ashtabula, O., and Mrs. Fred Spittal of Erie, Pa. A group of friends surprised Homer H. Elis at his home Fri day evening in celebration of his birthday. Mrs. Ellis served din ner which was followed by cards LeRoy B. Eddy formerly of Predora who is an engineer with the Stanolind OU and Gas com pany who was stationed with 3 crew at Post, Tex. for several months has been transferred to Brenham, Tex. Fredoniz Garden Club The Fredonia Garden club van meet. Tuesday: afternoon at 2:50 o'clock at the home of Mes. W. H. Van Scoter, Temple street. Dr. John Wells, science teacher at the Normal school, will have charge of the program on “a lient Plants.” Westminster Club The Westminster club of thei r Presbyterian church will meet Tuesday evening in the church parlors. In other places it may ‘have been that someone] withinancial backing has secured enough control to place himself in the executive position but lack ed the ability required for suc cessful management. “Yes,” you will say, “but how, about the people who have se cured their jobs through pull and have continued to go up the lad der of success?” There are many ‘such people. They secured their first opportunity’ because of inf luence but let us not forget that in nearly every case they have is justified the confidence placed in them and have done their work efficiently rather than depending it on pail for advancement. There are opportunities that l ook attractive to us and we are justified in using any honest means at our command to place ourselves in a position where we c can prove our ability to’ do the} work satisfactorily. Our error is]! when we try to retain that posi ion by pull rather than by prov en capacity {or do the work well. If small or large organizations retained many men or women on their payroll who were inefficient it would not be long before the. Heém competition would force them into the bankruptcy courts. If we as individuals are weak enough to expect to depend on in-f luence it will not be long before we will be forced into financial and character bankruptcy. Next Week— Keeping Up to [Date.”
