Hawkins dispatched the animal with a well-directed shot. H. Leonard and J. H. Bradish of North Dakota yesterday purchased the Phoenix cannery, paying $11,500 for the plant. Mr. Leonard handled the products of this cannery last season and said that the goods put up in Phoenix were the best in the market. The new purchasers have had much experience in this business and will enlarge the plant to meet the growing demand for its goods. Mr. Bradish says that through the efforts of Mr. Leonard a large number of families will come from North Dakota next fall. John Agard, Ed Metcalf and B. H. Reynolds returned yesterday from Minnehaha Flat where they went to look at some mining property. They found A. T. March’s mine turning out gold in large quantities. Their team ran away while they were returning and all except Agard were thrown out and more or less injured. The boys were all asleep in the wagon and the team was left to itself A. L. Henshaw returned yesterday, morning from Galveston where he been on a business trip for sive weeks. He says that because of the late torrential rains the whole state of Texas looks like a lake. H. C. Boone, secretary of the Worlds’ Fair board, left last night for Tucson and other points in the south ern pere of the territory. He will shortly wind up the business of the board here before leaving for the fair .The first carload of apricots was shipped out last night by Dunn and Forsee. The fruit was in prime con dition and was packed so that it wi arrive at its destination in good shape .S. A. Davidson yesterday gold to Captain E.A. Poyen seven lots in Block T. University addition, for $5,000. Captain Poyen has great faith in the future of the Salt River Valley and will invest more money in city property. James M’Millan, superintendent of the Gila Bend Construction company, came in Sunday from Gila Bend. ‘ Governor’ Hughes yesterday air pointed. George P. Thornton’ of Wil liams to be a member of the livestock’ sanitary board. 2 Phoenix is to have another drug store to be operated by J. A. Kurtz and E. S.
