CRONE, Justica of Frace, 1 WALTER H. HAMILTON, Justice, of Peace, ARTHUR F LOCKWOOD, Town Superintendent of Highways, * ‘Youngstown to Olean, Friday afternoon Tiber was tak en to a house on North Unton street Where he said he 'id stayed ‘Ultues day afternoon. ‘The owner of the place denied that he had given the man a night's lodging. Tider later changed history. Statements Vary ‘Tiber Stated to Chief Dempsey ; that he left the house in question at 10 o’clock. Triday morning. As the police had searched the house before that time Friday morning in search of fugitives and did not flat Tibor this story was also proven false. Late Friday night Tibor was tak en to the home of Mike Russe, lo cated on Vine street between Water and Elm, where he claimed in a lat er statement that he had spent Thursday night. Police believe that this story is the most plausible. Russo, in a statement to police, says tat the nar held in connection with the murder of Barber stayed in his house Thursday night and ate break fast there Friday morning. Russo was unable to say what time the suspect left the house on the day of the shooting. Police say that Tiber is not the name of the man. His Italian name is Gelandi Jeoi, they say. When the man purchased a Ford sedan in Canton, Ohio, recently the bill of sale was made out to Joel Tiber. We also used the name of John Tiber, John Teol and Joe Leol, police say. The fact that Tiber has been in Olean for ten days or two weeks is now thought to be established by po lice. Several persons have made statements to police that they have seen the man in the city during the past two weeks. He is also said to have worked here more than a year ago. At that time he stayed in the city for about ten months, police say. Working io several different places. Positive identification of the man as one of the two strangers who shot Barber is thought to be estab lished at this time by one person whose name the authorities would not divulge who claims to be an eye witness to the whole shooting. This man is expected to be a star witness in the case should Tibet be held by authorities for the grand jury which will convene at Little Valley Mon tiny. June 1, ivo or six other persons who, it is said, saw the men running from the scene of murder have been se ceured by authorities in efforts to identify Uber License Held The car for which Tiber has a bill of sale and license has been secured by authorities and is be ing held pending investigation of its purchase. The auto was found in a garage on North Fifth street where the suspect lead the offi cers. The license for the machine was evidently secured in Olean May 11, the date on which the license found on his person was made out. This fact and the state ment of a man whose name is, withheld that Tiber rode from Allegany to Clean Sunday night leads the officers to beleve that he suspect came to town Sunday, purchased the license Monday and stayed here since that time. Tiber, being held as a suspect, has proven an enigma to police. He rests in his cell without the least signs of nervousness, ap
