A. E. Chalon, R.A.—Mr. Chalon rarely paints a picture but his portraits on paper are so beautiful as to be entirely per sc as works of art. There is certainly no living artist who does so much justice to female loveliness. In the Antique Academy are no fewer than eight specimens of his'powers, which will abundantly bear us out in our assertion. His slightest drawings are worth scores of other painters* finished productions. No man who can boast of a handsome female in his family should neglect to have her charms perjetuated by Mr. Chalon. He can (to employ a metaphor) “ gild the lily and add a perfume to the violet.*’
