PAGE 14 HOWLAND INDEPENDENT, WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 1966Student of week is youth delegateBy MARILYN PARISEHOWLAND—Scott Mottice, son of Ann and Bill Mottice, is a senior at Howland High School.Scott is a member and captain of the Howland Swim Team. He has participated in Student Council for three years, spent one year as yearbook photographer, two years in the band and was a Boys' State alternate.He is a member of the National Honor Society and chairman of the 1984 high school Red Cross Blood Drawing.Scott is involved in the Christian Youth Fellowship at Central Christian (hurch, and is district Boy-CoPresident of the Youngstown-Warren Area.He was selected to travel on International Affairs Seminar for Youth sponsored by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ohio with 38 other youth from all over Ohio.He traveled to Washington D.C. for four days. It was the first American group allowed into South Africa’s embassy and was able to talk with the delegate.The group toured the senate floor, White House, Smithsonion Institute. They met with the Lutheran lobbyist working now against South Africa external and internal government policies.Mottice then went to New York City for three and onehalf days. They toured the United Nations and met with the delegate of Israel and then the delegate of the PLO.The group saw a Broadway show. “Cats, ate at Mama Leone's and were in Chinatown daring the Chinese New Year celebrations.He was selected on the basis of a 300-word paper on the U.N. and a 3,000 word term paper on a particular subject of some world crisis, plus preassigned readings on major world decisions. His Term paper was on the “Conflicts on the Middle East.Scott enjoys waterskiing and photography and has worked as a lifeguard at Warren YMCA, Saratoga Catering Service for three and one-half years. He also worked at Howland Aid ‘n Save Pharmacy.
