Miss Ruth Nees, principal at Carl Conlee Elementary School, will retire at the close of the cureent school year following a parel of service to young peo ple. A retirement tea is plied from 8 p.m. to 6 pi, Sunday, May 22 1 Conlee School to hon or Miss Ness. Former students, teachers and patrons of chums in which Miss Ness has served and other friends are all invited to attend. A sfierial party due the Conjee students will be held on Friday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 24 , dividing the students into Lio groups Taught One Room School Miss Nees, a native of Indi fa, received her A.D. degree In Enghand mathe alive from Te Fauw University. Teaching (in three thousand ‘pupil school at Gary, Ind. proyed in he a ranlvagh to her earlier assign avents, following that Miss Nees cite to Lag Cruces, where she taught at Grandview Sehngs (now Bradley). During her en tire first year her “room” met in the hallway, due to crowded conditions of the school, Central School then was her assignment, South Ward Principal Following Central, she moved to South Ward School where she became principal and remained in that capacity for 18 years. Her next move was to the prin cipalship of Valley View, where she had been working only one year when she was asked to be enoiyal of Coulee Elementary School. ‘There had not been another move for Miss Nees since she undertook that tremendous jar 10 years ago. In that time the school has grown from a 16- roods achobandlay for build ing of 92 classrooms, Miss Nees names music and math as her hobbies, but “de veloping the finest potential of people” would also be an ac curate satement, say friends. Squeezed in between thoge bugy years, Miss Nees found time to earn a masters degree from the University of Southern Califernia during summer months. The time the degree is an elementary education. Also, during the war,nun 1943, when many of the New Mexico State University teachers were called away to the armed sur vival, Miss Nees became a member of the mathematics faculty for a time, Professional Civic Activities Miss Nees alds membership in many scholastic, professional and civic organizations. Among these are Tal Beta, Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Melia Kappa Gam ma, Kappa Kappa Teta, a life membership 40 the National Ea wcation Association, life mem ber PTA National Cowell of Mathematics ‘Teachers, and member of State Council of Mathematics. She has served as Resident of Dona Ana County Teachers Association and of Lus trucus Education Association. She is Cuh Srout honorary Rack Mother and she serves as Merit Hadge Counselor for Boy Scouts. She has also been a member of the American Assn eistian of University Women and long served on the board of Ute Christian Day Wucsery. Member of Chelstan Church Miss Nees belongs to the Mee silla Valley Christian Church and resideg with her sister, Mrs. Sarah Ivey, who teaches at Mac Arthur School. Her niece is Miss Ruth Ann Pelteer, also a teache re in Log Ceaves.
