John Henry Ulin, son of Benja min and Barbara Wagoner Ulin, was born near Ollie on January 12, 1868, and passed away at his home in Hed rick on May 9, 1940, being 72 years, three months and 27 days of age. He moved with his parents to the vicinity of Hayesville and here he grow’ to manhood and was married to Miss Mary Young of Hayesville on September 20, 1888. To Mr. and Mrs. Un four children were born: Charles Monroe, twins, Nettie and Mettie (Mettie dying as a child of 11 years old) and Otto. They went to housekeeping about four miles north of Martinsburg and In 1902 moved to Hedrick which place has since been there home. He worked for the railroad for 35 years until they pensioned him because of ige, and since then he has been en joying the results of a well spent in dustrial life. When a young man of 18 he made a start in the Christian life, but like many others he soon became careless and negligent. In his later life he was much interested in the better things of life and was a constant attendant as long as his health permitted. For many years he was the caretaker of the Baptist church. About nine months ago he was tak en to the hospital at Iowa City, but was soon sent home with the sentence of “only a little while and the end would come.” As his body grew weaker, his faith and confidence in God grew brighter and brighter. He leaves to mourn their legs, his devoted wife and three children, Char les Ulin of Sioux Falls, 9. D.,Mrsa, Logan Philpott of Hedrick and Otto Ulin of Sioux Falls, S. D. There are also ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. James Stephenson of Sigourney and Mrs. Geo. Wiseman of Farson. Funeral services were held Sunday at two o'clock p. m. at the Baptist church, conducted by the pastor the Rev. Mrs. J. W. Terrell, assisted by Rev. M. D. Cox who preached the sermon. Interment was made in the Brooks cemetery.
