Vegetables Moving From That Place In Large Quantities. Our school will close May 23. We had a most welcome rain Tues day afternoon. The Woodmen’s Circle meets Wed nesday afternoon of this week. The Minstrel Show that Mr. Lester Brown is getting up will come off on May 23rd. The “Pastime Athletic Club” will have an ice cream social this Thurs day night. Miss Thelma Strickland went home with Miss Jessie Sims, to Ellenton, for the week-end last week. E. S. Hubbard, agent of our Union Dock, says there were 5,000 packages of vegetables shipped by boat last week. Miss Margaret Dole is teaching the last two weeks of the Primary De partment of our school, on account of the illness of the teacher, Miss Ruth Abel. Mrs. Nellie Mae Springstead, of Palmetto, and her sister, Miss Katie Mitchell, of Tampa, visited with Mrs. Margaret Dole and family in West Terra Ceia last Thursday and Friday. The Y. P. B. and the W. C. T. U. had a social evening at the Hall last Thursday night. There was an inter esting program rendered, and during the social hour following, cake and punch were served, and Mrs. Hollo way gave several humorous recita tions. The annual meeting of the Village Improvement Association was held at the V. I. A. Hall last Thursday after noon. The same officers were re elected. That is Mrs. Eunice Halsey, president; Mrs. Virginia Armstrong, vice-president; Mrs. Alice Blood, sec retary and Mrs. Rose Abel, treasurer. Rockwood and Margaret Cole drove to Palmetto Saturday evening to take supper with Mr. and Mrs. Springstead and her sister, Miss Mitchell. They all took in the “Rosy Polys” later in the evening There were also a good many other “Celestials” at the latter place. The Terra Ceia Union Wharf Co. held a meeting at the Hall Monday night and decided on building a $6,000 company packing house on the Union Dock. $2,100 was subscribed that evening and next day. This packing house will be used by the Citrus Ex change next season and probably by fruit buyers and others. And for vegetables through the entire season. The Flower Mission department of the W. C. T. U. gave an interesting entertainment last Monday afternoon at the Hall. Mrs. E. S. Hubbard is the Superintendent of this department and deserves praise for her interest ing program and well-drilled children The stage was handsomely decorated with white ribbon and pink oleanders, blossoms, and green leaves were hung and a very large wreath of “pink vine” in the center of the arch. There were recitations, readings and music. All the school children—all wearing big white ribbon bows—marched in the white ribbon drill and sang, “Some 1 Glad Day”. And the Maypole dance was a very pleasing feature.
