[Special Dispatch to The Call] UKIAH, May 14.—The Ukiah driving club gave its first matinee of the season at the Ukiah racetrack yesterday. The program was exceptionally good and made up of Mendocino county's horses entirely. Each event was marked by a close finish, and the followers of the sport, while no wasting could be in Sulted in, took great interest in each event. It is the intention of the club to give their next matinee May 20, and two days’ meet July 4 and 5, when horses from Sonoma county and other nearby sections will be in evidence. The Ukiah racing course over which the events are held, is conceded by horse men to be the fastest half mile track in California. The following is a summary of yes terday'’s events: First race, half mile heats, best two in three, for baby trotters—Wondy W. 8. Ketlaway's Freddie J. Miss Jasper second, Bill Sykes third, Best time, 1:25. Second race, half mile heats—Won by 7. 2, Senetine (ie ManeThirts GS in it 1:17. ie Wilkes in is old and sired by Guy Wilkes,. 1 race, half mile heats—WWon by Doctor Hudson's Claude Duval (sired by ie T second, Decoration W thin. Best pat Pitcher Frank Eastley has twirled his last Seat for the Seals, for today he will start for ‘ortland, there to join Nick Williams’ North western league club. Eastley was a coin pitcher all last season and started off well this year, but, Somehow or other, he failed to keep In condition, and try as he might be could not get Re ig Ukely that the change In climate will help Eastley out. At all events, the fans are wishing him the best luck In the world for Eastley al Was very popular here. The loss of Eastley will not cripple the Seals’ pitching staff, as young Zamrock reported on the job yesterday afternoon. However, he will not be worried for a while, as he is suffering from an attack of pleurisy.
