Death of Mrs. Laviua Blcliards.*The Messenger of Death has been a i frequent visitor to our little town during the past few months,and has called away from their labors on earth several of those near and dear to all of us, especially those of the older citizens. Sud ! denly and unexpected last Sunday morn ing about 2 o’clock, Mrs, Thoma9 Richards was stricken with paralysis and her death followed oo Saturday morning at about 7:'o a. m.Laviua Jane McClellan Holmes was born cm March, 13, 1^32, in Orange count). In earl) girlhood she was converted and joined the Presb) terian church at Livonia, of which she continued a faithful and devoted member until the hour of her death, liviDg a consistaut, upright Christian life. On June 3$, 18 j5, she was united in marriage to Dr, James D, McPheeters, to which union was born six children, four of whom are still living: fimmett# MfcPheeters, of New Albany; Mrs. Mattie Harvey, of Hardinsburg; Mrs. Ella Mit ton, of Fredericksburg, and Mrs! Hadnah Stevens, of Hutchison, Kansas. Ir.v * •1855, she frith her husband' moved Ho town where she lived the remainder of her life, except one year which was spent at Martinsburg. - 'r'1On November 24,1870, she was calledupon to give up her husband in death,On September 18, 18lt;2, she was again united Ip marriage, this time to Thomas Richards, who survives, and to this union was born one child, Mrs. Nannie Finley, wife of Dr, J. L. Finley, of Collison, 111.She was a well loved and kind woman and will be long remembered for her Christian traits and her patriotism. She sincerely and devotedly loved the oldsoldiers, and well she might, for her husbands both saw service in the war of the rebellion, and her aged husband who is left behind carries in his body five bui-j lets received in the service of his country during that war.She was stricken with paralysis Sunday morning and during the first of her illness, before she became unconscious,I1 she told her son that she was prepared ; for death and expected soon to go. So ! on Saturday morning at 7 o’clock she 1 passed quietly away, j Funeral services Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock were conducted by Rev.E.P. j Stevens at the residence after which the 1 remains were laid to rest in the cemetery [ at Fredericksburg.J.
