Destin’s Getting Its Golden Archesby Jim ChitwoodDestin s very own Golden Arches are on the way.Kate Bagley, franchise holder, said this week construction will begin in June for a McDonald’s Hamburger Restaurant on Highway 98.“If all the permits go through, it should be ready to open the middle of August,” Bagley said.With the McDonald’s chain here for 22 years, the Destin restaurant will be the fifth location Bagley has built in Okaloosa County.Bagley said the site for the fast-food facility will be between the proposed Scottish Inn Motel and the Cox Young Realtors building on the north side of the highway.“The company actually picks out the property,” Bagley explained. “They have been looking at Destin for some time. I believe Destin will support staying open year round.”Bagley said the McDonald's will employ between 40-50 persons. The number fluctuates with the season. “We hire a lot more people than people think,” she said.Bagley said the restaurant will be slightly larger than the McDonald's she operates in Niceville. She said planners advised her to extend the dining area by 10 feet to accomodate the tourist season crowds.While the exterior will follow franchise design, Bagley said the interior will feature ‘the Destin fishing village decor.”Asked what she attributed the success of the McDonald’s chain, Bagiev said. “Consistency and carefull attention to the quality of the product.”The disclosure of the McDonald's project comes on the heels of construction of the new Destin Hardee’s Restaurant on Highway 98 and Stahl man Avenue. Hardee's will open next week.
