Set May 27, clean-up dayThe Forrest village board at their Thursday, May 6 meeting set Thursday, May 27 for clean-up day throughout the village. Residents are to have their items they wish to be picked up at the curb by 7 a.m, that morning. Tentative plans call for pick-up on the north side of town in the morning and the south side in the afternoon.A committee from the Forrest Chamber of Commerce attended the meeting to discuss with the board what help could be given for the building of tennis courts and providing a site on which to build them.Steve Metz, chairman of the recreation committee of the Chamber, and Bill Masters president, were spokesmen for the committee. Harold Slater, Wesley Bertram, Rolland Kinate, and Herman Rieger had been invited by the committee to also attend the meeting.The major part of the meeting was involved with the discussion of the courts, their costs, upkeep, need and a suitable building site.(Most communities who do have tennis courts are made possible by the villageboards, assistance from the townships, schools or by a memorial or donations through privatecitizens.)The board made a motion to give the chamber permission for a site in the Forrest Park for tennis courts with the village supporting the cause by two-thirds of the cost with the remaining one-third to be raised by the chamber. The total cost is not to exceed $24,000.In other business, Arthur Huette, clerk, reported that $528 had been collected in fines for April; water collections were $4,509.40 for April; the Feb. receipts for the motor fuel tax was $979.25; State income tax was $999,41; municipal tax was $2,806.61. $1,350 was collected for liquor license fees.Building permits were issued to Irvin Nagel, $5 for a new garage; Ivan Metz, $20 for a new house; Richard Sanders, $5 to remodel his electrical shop building; and Mrs. Mae Hack, $5 to build a garage and remodel a kitchen.Walter King, attended the meeting todiscuss with the board the building erf homes in vhe area north of the present Forrest Lake area and the steps that would need to be taken to annex into the village. King along with Bill Masters and Raymond Steffen own the four lot area under discussion.Glenn Alford of Fair bury assumed the position as the new deputy for Forrest, replacing Pat Bost who is working in the Sheriff’s department in Pontiac. Alford is to move to Forrest June 1 when housing is available.Alford asked the village to purchase for his use an R.A. gun which the board approved at a cost of $1,000 and also asked the board to install new stop signs in the Forrest Park area.The board appointed Paul McLoughUn as village treasurer to fill the vacancy of the position previously held by Mrs. Elizabeth Custer who had resigned.Village employees are to be granted a $25 per month cost of living pay increase; the salary of the clerk was raised from $750 to $1,000 per year.
