In every heart and soul is the yearning cry — world peace. It is the desire of the soldiers on the battle fronts, to return to their loved ones and a normal life in peace. It is the desire of each civilian, where he or she may be, that life could become normal again. They believe their answer lies in world peace. Then why is there not world peace? We all desire it. What are the factors that forever stir one nation to rise up and strike another? The causes are so numerous and tightly interwoven with each other it would be hard to separate each single cause and examine it thoroughly. Yet there is one today that exists under our very noses. President Nuttall turned it over in our minds, either to the positive or negative side, just lately. He was asking whether Japanese-American citizens would be accepted and allowed to enroll at Snow in the coming school year. The ugly word we have for foundation of such a query is race prejudice and it is one of the many factors combating movements for world peace. What is your answer? Do you want these students in your class rooms? If not, why? Let’s us review each side carefully, first, against Japanese-American students. You've heard it a million times on the streets and in public gatherings, the Japanese, by nature, are cruel, brutal and double dealer, so they can’t be trusted to run free in our country. When we read about our boys being shot down by the Japanese, we can’t control the bitter hatred for the whole race. These are the main objections against these students. They are few, but powerful. Have we stopped to think since the war started, or has race prejudice dulled our reasoning and thinking powers? Before the war, Japanese-American students were setting splendid scholastic records in our school and just as Americanized as any fourth or fifth generation German or Italian stock. Yet because of physical features, we say they can’t be trusted. Wake up America! Don’t let race prejudice be a blocking stone to that world peace you so fondly dream of. Let democracy ring true so it falls equally on all Americans without thought of color or nationality. It is not these people who are responsible for the death of a friend or kin in the South Pacific war zones Many are as American as you are. If they aren’t, will actithtas, solve the problem? We must rise above our hatred and prejudi to answer the yearning of the war-torn world and each divide heart — world peace. Sree Snow College’s reply to their president is one that is heart warming in these days. It was a hearty welcome 7 to the Jr American students into the student body of Snow —_* College. Royal Bagley.
