The following: gentlemen were at the last terra of the Commissioners1 Court, appointed assessors, to assess the taxable property of this county, under the provisions of the Ad valorem law,viz: William Smith for Madisjn township —A. H. Ames, Milton—Robert Benefield, Shelby—'John Francis, Lancaster—B. Watson, Graham—J ames Ala thews, Republican—Rich-ard Wasson, Saluda. The taxes of the present year will be collected under the provisions of the former law, and the rates for county purposes are, on town lote, one half per centum on the valuation—on 1st rate land $1 25 on the hundred acres—2d do. §1 00—3d do. 87*,—on horses, mules, c. 25 cts.—Brass Clocks, 50— Pleasure Carriages, 50—Gold Watches, 50— Silver and Composition Watches, 25 cents.
